I wanted to provide an update regarding Violence against women and girls, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Community Engagement – Walk for Zara Aleena’s Vigil Officers from Valentine’s Ward, alongside colleagues from other wards, proudly joined the Walk for Zara Aleena’s Vigil in partnership with London Borough of Redbridge Enforcement, Outreach Teams, Park Guards, community representatives, residents, and many people who knew Zara Aleena. The event was a peaceful, family-oriented, and community-led walk held in remembrance of Zara Aleena, bringing people together to reflect, support one another, and reinforce our collective commitment to making our communities safer. Throughout the vigil, officers actively engaged with attendees, listening to local concerns and providing advice, reassurance, and guidance. As part of our continued commitment to tackling Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), officers distributed information leaflets highlighting available support services, reporting pathways, and safety resources. Events such as this are vital in strengthening trust, promoting awareness, and encouraging open conversations about the challenges faced by women and girls. Our primary aim was to engage with the community, raise awareness of VAWG, provide practical advice, and ensure residents know where to access support when needed. A sincere thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making the vigil such a respectful and meaningful event. By working together with our partners and local communities, we continue to demonstrate that preventing violence against women and girls is everyone's responsibility, and that support, education, and engagement remain at the heart of creating safer neighbourhoods for all.
